A Stockholm C14 subway train in a yard at dusk in TrainWars
SHORT ANSWER

In TrainWars you paint full-size subway trains online, in your browser: a Stockholm C14 in a yard at dusk, a yellow Berlin Class G in a stabling tunnel, a two-car Oslo T1300 laid up under the birches, and a three-car Paris MF67 in an old Métro tunnel. There is also a tunnel map with an electrical house. Several maps are free.

Train writing is the heart of graffiti culture. Painting a real train means trespassing, live rails and real danger. TrainWars lets you paint full-size subway trains online, in your browser, with none of that. Here is every map.

Stockholm Metro yard (C14), free

Two blue C14 cars with three double doors per side. Parked in an open depot yard.

Stockholm: Subway tunnel (Electrical house), free

Paint the concrete electrical house in a rock tunnel. Stay off the tracks.

Berlin Metro layup (Class G), free

Oslo: Layup (T-bane T1300), Full Game

Two red T1300 cars with a blue window band. Outdoor siding. Stay off the tracks.

Paris Metro Layup (MF67), Full Game

Three-car MF67: two cab cars and a centre trailer, in white and turquoise. Tiled tunnel. Stay off the tracks.

Free vs Full Game

TrainWars is free to play. The Full Game is a one-time purchase of $9.99. It unlocks the Oslo, Paris and CPH Backjump maps, Chrome, Gold, Copper and Tar black finishes, the squeezer marker, the wide marker and the Superwide 750 can, and 150 blackbook pages instead of 10.

Tips for your first whole car

  1. Sketch with a thin cap first. Light, fast passes. You can paint over them.
  2. Fill with a fat cap. Step back for soft edges, step in for clean ones.
  3. Outline last. A dark outline with a thin cap makes everything sharp.
  4. Use the train's shape. Doors and window lines are natural breaks between letters.
  5. Shoot it. Take the photo from a low angle along the side of the train, the classic shot.
